The COSMOS Rules
This certification is built around a set of guiding rules:

• Promoting the use of products from organic agriculture, and respecting biodiversity
• Using natural resources responsibly, and protecting the environment
• Ensuring processing and manufacturing are clean and respectful of human health and the environment
• Integrating and developing the concept of Green Chemistry
  

 How Ingredients Are Classified

1. Water — Vital and basic raw material in product development; quality is essential.
2. Mineral ingredients — Necessary but non-renewable; require clear environmental rules in their use and processing.
3. Physically processed agro-ingredients — Natural ingredients processed gently, mostly from organic agriculture.
4. Chemically processed agro-ingredients — Organic raw materials processed with safe, authorised methods under the principles of Green Chemistry.
5. Other ingredients — A highly selective list of allowable ingredients used to protect consumers and support product efficacy, while the longer-term objectives of the COSMOS Standard continue to drive improvements in safety and sustainability.

This approach ensures that every product we make is safe, natural, and environmentally responsible, while supporting innovation in sustainable cosmetics.

ECOCERT
Founded in France in 1991, ECOCERT specialised in the certification of organic agricultural products and was the very first certification body to develop standards for “natural” and “organic” cosmetics. ECOCERT has become a benchmark in organic certification worldwide, winning the confidence of both consumers and professionals.

The ECOCERT standard inspects ingredients, manufacturing processes, and packaging to ensure that everything, from where the plant is grown, to the packaging on your shelf, is compliant. ECOCERT approves only the use of “green chemicals” and accredits products that meet its strict criteria.

To ensure an environmentally friendly product, ECOCERT strives to promote the use of ingredients derived from renewable resources and production and manufacturing processes that are environmentally safe. Outside of cosmetic products and respected ingredients, ECOCERT also holds certification and control of eco-products related to home fragrance, textiles, spas, and detergents.

ECOCERT is accredited in accordance with the ISO 17065 standard, and its certification standards now fall under the broader COSMOS standard, established in early 2017.
